The Scholarium Foundation was founded by a parent and educational leader in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area who homeschooled her children and became increasingly frustrated by the barriers and biases they encountered when seeking educational opportunities.
Too often, workshops, seminars, enrichment programs, extracurricular activities, educational materials, internships, scholarships, and student recognition programs were available only to children enrolled in traditional schools. The Foundation was created from the belief that a focused, nonprofit organization could help open these opportunities to homeschooled and alternatively educated students and provide them with more equitable access to valuable educational experiences.
Through targeted funding initiatives and community partnerships, the Scholarium Foundation works to remove barriers, expand access, and level the playing field for students educated outside traditional school settings. The Foundation partners with organizations and programs that provide part-time, occasional, supplemental, and on-demand learning opportunities for homeschooling and alternative-schooling families.
